Kaizer Chiefs Reserves will take on their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the ‘It’s Massive’ festival this weekend. Sparks are expected to fly at this much anticipated Multichoice Diski Challenge Soweto Derby fixture.
A turning point is waiting to happen for Chiefs Reserves after they recorded a series of drawn matches recently. In their last match, Chiefs Reserves played to a 1-1 draw against Baroka FC. Pirates Reserves will be motivated by their 2-0 win over Stellenbosch FC Reserves. But as history has taught us, Derby matches don’t take into account the record books. As for the form book, it gets absolutely thrown out of the window.
After thirteen games played in the MDC league, the log is pretty much still open. The two Soweto rivals are separated by five points. Pirates Reserves have an upper hand with 24 points to their name in fourth position. Chiefs Reserves are breathing heavily behind them after amassing 19 points. The young Amakhosi are in seventh position.
The Derby festival will take place at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto. The big Soweto Derby will headline the festival by bringing the curtains down with a 15:00 kick-off. The other Derbies will precede - kicking off at 11:00 will be KwaZulu Natal Derby between AmaZulu Reserves and Golden Arrows reserves. The Tshwane Derby between Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United Reserves will follow at 13:00.
FREE tickets will be available at the Dobsonville stadium on Thursday and Friday from 1pm. All matches will be live on SuperSport.
