Kaizer Chiefs Reserves will play a DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) home fixture against Swallows FC Reserves at FNB Stadium on Saturday at 10:00.
The Reserve team return to action this weekend after having last weekend’s game against Richards Bay postponed as a consequence of the tragic and untimely passing of one of their players, Siphamandla Mtolo.
In their last encounter, which was a fortnight ago, Amakhosi Reserves beat Chippa United Reserve, 3-2, at Wolfson Stadium in KwaZakhele in Gqeberha.
After not playing last weekend, the young Glamour Boys dropped from fourth sixth place on the DDC log. Sitting on 32 points after 19 matches, the team has two games in hand due to postponed fixtures.
The Reserve team coach, Vela Khumalo, is not with the backlog of games, but admits that there’s nothing that could have been done to avoid the situation as one game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
“We offered our condolences to Richards Bay for their loss,” says Khumalo. “We used the weekend to prepare ourselves by playing friendlies so that we do our best to maintain fitness levels and our winning momentum when we get back on the field for an official match.” He said.
“We are missing a number of players due to injuries, bookings and a funeral, but we are ready to welcome the Dube Birds to FNB Stadium on Saturday. The young boys will have to step up and help us where necessary. We need to pick up points so we can move up the log and join the chasing pack. We are looking forward to a tough match but we are confident we will do well,” he added.”
The game between Chiefs Reserves and Swallows FC Reserves will kick-off at 10:00 on Saturday morning. Tickets are available at FNB stadium.
