The four Kaizer Chiefs development teams are ready for this weekend’s Gauteng Development League semi-finals scheduled to take place on Saturday against Mamelodi Sundowns junior teams at the Kaizer Chiefs Village.
Chiefs juniors finished the league higher than all the 15 teams in the league after the process of tallying the points in all four age groups of the GDL.
The semi-final games will commence at 9:00 with the under-17 team taking on their Sundowns counterparts. That game will be followed by the under-13s duel at 10:30. The under-15 teams will kick off at midday and the last match will see the Kaizer Chiefs under-19s tackle Sundowns at 13:30.
Head of Technical and Development Academy Molefi Ntseki believes the teams have done their best to prepare given the balance they currently need between football and schoolwork as it is close to final year exam time for many of the youngsters in the four teams.
“We are happy for reaching the semi-finals because we have worked hard to be here as Kaizer Chiefs,” says Ntseki. “The chairman and the Club have invested in the development structures and it’s evident when you look at the results. We now need to ensure that we advance to the finals of this year’s GDL competition. While our main objective remains developing great players, teaching that winning attitude and mentality at a young age is equally important for us.
“We need the four-age group coaches and their teams to go out there and make us proud by advancing to the finals. We know that it won’t be easy, but we have faith in our teams because they have been working hard throughout the year.
The games will take place at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena on Saturday from 9 am. No spectators will be allowed due to Covid-19 regulations. Updates will be provided on our social media platforms.
