Zwane rings in double century

Arthur Zwane became only the third Kaizer Chiefs player in the current squad to feature in 200 matches for The Amakhosi, when Chiefs were victorious in an ABSA Premiership match over BidVest Wits on Wednesday evening.

Zwane joins teammates Cyril Nzama and Thabo Mooki as only the third player in the current group to rack up a double century of matches in gold and black. The irony for Zwane being that it was against Wits that he made his debut for Chiefs in July 2000, almost five and a half years back. On what was a match on Wednesday evening that will long remain in the 2002 – 2003 Chiefs Player of the Year's mind, the veteran midfielder was part of the build up which lead to Chiefs opening goal and played his part in helping Chiefs win for the first time in 2008.

Amazing achievement

The 34-year-old has pronounced himself delighted with the fact that he was able to reach 200 matches for Chiefs. He thought it unthinkable when he signed on at the start of the 2000 – 2001 season that he would be able to hang about for such a lengthy period at Chiefs.

As he said to kaizerchiefs.com “ I have been through a lot in my football life and when I joined Chiefs, I thought it would be nice if I can stick around for a few years at the club and win a few medals. I have with the help of my teammates down the years and the clubs management structures and most importantly with help from further above I have been able to in some measure add value to the club and surpass my own objectives.

Playing in 200 matches is not an easy thing it has happened thanks to a lot of hard work and determination, it has all paid off in the end for me”.

Subdued celebration

Arthur’s post match celebrations on Wednesday evening were virtually non-existent as he headed straight home after the match and he explained to kaizerchiefs.com why he put celebrating this remarkable achievement on ice. Saying “given our over all standing in the league and the results of the previous two games I felt it was best if I went straight home from the match. Maybe later I will get to cherish this achievement, right now though my focus is on SuperSport United and moving further up the league table and hopefully there will be more course for celebration later in the season”.
