Winger Arthur Zwane and striker Collins Mbesuma played a starring role as Kaizer Chiefs bulldozed Madagascar side USJF Ravinala 4-1 in their second round, second leg encounter at Olympia Park in Rustenburg on Saturday.

Chiefs, who will meet Tunisian giants Esperance in the next round, progress on a 5-1 aggregate scoreline following their 1-0 win in Madagascar two weeks ago.

The Malagasy visitors made their intensions clear from the first minute as they took the fight to Amakhosi, almost causing trouble for the hosts. But it was Chiefs who took the lead after only six minutes.

Zambian hitman Mbesuma set the tone with a well-taken goal after connecting to a great cross from Zwane on the right. Defender Sphiwe Mkhonza also played a part in the goal as he started the move from his own half. Chiefs almost immediately doubled the lead with Zwane again crossing from the right but Mbesuma’s shot went high.

Ravinala came close on 17 minutes when Claudi Ralaitafika forced a great save from Chiefs keeper Rowen Fernandez. Nevertheless Chiefs were just too good to be denied passage to the next round.

Veteran midfielder John "Shoes" Moshoeu spotted a weakness in the Ravinala defence and slotted the ball through the middle channel to Mbesuma, who did well under pressure from two defenders to slot his second of the night.

While Mbesuma kept the Ravinala defence on the their toes throughout the night, Zwane quietly terrorised the visitors from the wings with his brilliant runs and accurate crosses. Young Simphiwe Mbambo was also to benefit from Zwane’s great work as he buried the third goal on 36 minutes.

Ravinala pulled a goal back on the stroke of halftime through Ralaitafika, who diplayed some fine individual skill before firing a low shot to Fernandez’s right.

The moment of the match came on 69 minutes when Zwane capped a fine display with a brilliant goal. With the Ravinala defence desperately trying to clear danger following a Chiefs corner, Zwane effortlessly swung in a curling volley to seal the match and secure a date with one of Africa’s toughest opposition - Esperance, who overcame a 2-0 first leg deficit for a 5-3 aggregate win.

Elsewhere, SuperSport United shredded Red Stars of Seychelles 9-0 in their second round, second leg of the Confederation Cup at Milpark to progress the next round where they face either Botswana Defence Force or St Eloi Lupopo of the DRC.
