Zothwane hearing postponed

Lanky midfielder Papi Zothwane will have to wait another week to know whether or not he will be able to turn out in the Gold and Black for The Amakhosi this season.

This was after the Premier Soccer League committee sitting in on the case to decide whether Papi is still a Golden Arrows player or not postponed the case to the 29th July. The presiding judge appointed by the PSL took this decision after arguments and counter arguments by all parties concerned, when the case came before a PSL disciplinary review committee on Friday 21st at the PSL headquarters in Johannesburg .

Golden Arrows' argument that the player had signed an extension to his original contract which expired at the end of May, has been contested by the player who claims that the contract that his ‘former’ club are in possession of is a fraudulent one.

The judge, a Mr. Sidat who was presiding over the case decided to afford the player and Chiefs more time to contest Arrows claims, on two fronts the defence was hampered, in the first instance Arrows did not provide a copy of the extended contract to the defense.

The claim that the PSL had a copy of the extended contract could not be verified as it was in the possession of PSL CEO Trevor Phillips who will return to work on the 24th July as he had been away abroad. Furthermore the judge also wanted the contract to be handed over to a forensic hand writing specialist to decipher whether or not the signature on the contract extension was that of Zothwane’s or not.

With the hearing postponed for another week it is unlikely that Papi will be involved with the Chiefs team in the Mangaung tournament which will be played in Bloemfontein this coming Sunday (30-07-06), it will be played in the same manner as the Limpopo Soccer Challenge.

Chiefs will take on Moroka Swallows in the first game of the day which will kick off at 10h00 and the winner of that game will take on the winner of the second semi final between Super Sport United and home town favourites Bloemfontein Celtic which will be played at 12h00. The final will be played later on in the day.
