Amakhosi midfielder Mthokozisi Yende picked up the accolade for man of the match as Chiefs opened up their 2010 – 2011 Absa Premiership Campaign with a 2-0 victory on Saturday evening over Lamontville Golden Arrows.

A delighted Yende spoke of his joy to kaizerchiefs.com afterwards about the fact that Chiefs were able to kick off the season not just with a victory, but with a good overall team performance that helped set them on their way to an opening night win.

As he explained saying, “I was impressed with the performance of the team, and I thought that we really played well together, we set ourselves a target to win our first game and take it from there and to have done that is the best possible way to begin the new season on so many levels this is good for us.”

Yende’s own performance against Arrows was characterised by him being a menace in attack whenever Chiefs were on the offensive and he was able to back track when Chiefs were on the defensive.

Commenting on his contribution to the victory he said, “I was happy to go up and down the field and enjoyed the game thoroughly, I will take a lot out of this game and improve where I have to this performance is a morale booster for me and hopefully off it I can improve.”

The clinical Yende came close to scoring late in the game for Chiefs but for a well executed save from Arrows keeper Helton Da Rocha that prevented him from doingso, “I do believe that I should have scored with the one big attempt I had at goal. I felt I hit the ball well enough credit to the keeper for making the save I was unfortunate not to have opened my account for the season.”

Having set the standard with his heroics against Arrows Yende does not believe that he is under any added pressure to repeat the feat week in and week out for the rest of the season, “playing for a big team like Chiefs you can take no game from granted and there is no easy game when you play for this team. I will endeavour to perform at the same level in every game that I am afforded the opportunity to play in.”
