Kaizer Chiefs legend, Johannes 'Chippa' Molatedi believes that Bafana Bafana now have a competitive team to compete in next year’s World Cup to be staged on home soil.

The Mapetla-born legend was speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Friday morning following a gutsy performance staged by Bafana Bafana who narrowly lost by 1-0 to Brazil at Coca-Cola Park on Thursday night.

National Team coach, Joel Santana changed his tactics introducing three attacking midfielders, Teko Modise, Steven Pienaar and Siphiwe Tshabalala for the Brazil game and “Chippa” believes this was a good move.

“We had a positive approach to the game last night and I was impressed by the level of commitment shown by the boys. I believe that we now have a team to compete in the next year’s showpiece all we need is consistency and goals,” he said.

“We shared the ball very well in the middle of the park where at times we dominated Brazil. We also created good scoring opportunities.”

“My only concern though is up front where Bernard Parker looked isolated. We need to fix that but the coach has ample time to find a suitable partner to Parker who in the past couple of months has done well in getting us the goals.

“Consistency is also a concern, we cannot keep on ‘learning’ all the time. We have been part of FIFA family for a while now and we need to start winning games. Overall I was very impressed with the level of commitment displayed by the players and credit to them,” added ‘Fetsi’ as he was also known in his heydays.

Johannes Molatedi, who broke all transfer records in 1984 following a transfer from Swallows, turned for the Glamour Boys between 1984 and 1994.

He was part of the Class of 84 that won every trophy on board. Another Soweto-born midfielder, Renielwe Letsholonyana, currently wears his No. 6 jersey.

Chippa is also part of Kaizer Chiefs legends team.
