Club captain, Jimmy “Big V” Tau dedicated the victory over Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday as an early birthday present for political icon, Nelson Mandela who turns 93 on Monday, 18 July 2011.

George Lebese scored the all important goal during injury time to give the Amakhosi a well deserved 1-0 victory over Spurs.

“We dedicate the win to Madiba as he will be celebrating his birthday on Monday,” said Tau speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Sunday afternoon.

The reigning Kaizer Chiefs ‘Player of the Year’ also paid tribute to his colleagues for the win, “credit should go to my teammates for a wonderful job. The Technical Team guided us well throughout the game. It was not easy out there as Spurs has some of the best players in the world,” said Tau.

The Kimberly born defender was also quick to urge the public and the media not to put pressure on George Lebese who came in as a substitute on the afternoon to score the all important goal. On that Tau said, “George came in and did very well for the team. We are all happy for him. He has been working hard at training and it’s good to see him reaping the rewards of hard work.”

“However it is important that he is not being hailed as a star following the performance on Saturday. There is still a lot that he needs to do. As senior players we will be there for him to support him and show him the way. George is not only important for the Club but he is also a good prospect for the country,”

EL Capitan is also aware that the victory against Spurs has created expectations, “People will obviously expect a lot from the team this season but we are sticking to our programme. We are still on preparation stage. The win against Spurs augers well with what we want to achieve as the team this season. The win has brought confidence but we cannot afford to be complacent. We are also quite aware that the win has brought lots of expectations despite the tournament being a preseason tourney,”

“We remain focused as the team and the next game is now more important. We were back in training this morning (Sunday) to continue with our preseason programme,” he added.
