Head Coach, Vladimir Vermezovic insisted on Thursday that he still has confidence in the squad despite the loss against rivals, Orlando Pirates on Thursday night in front of a packed Nelson Mandela Stadium.

The match was a decider on who was to meet Tottenham Hotspur in the final of Vodacom Challenge at Coca Cola Park on Saturday, 23 July 2011.

“I still have confidence in all my players and I still believe that we can challenge strongly for league the championship this season,” said Vermezovic responding to the question on whether the team following the loss has what it takes to win the league this upcoming season.

“We have a chance to go back to training and rectify our mistakes. This game gave us an opportunity once more to look at different combinations, our strengths and our weaknesses. We will in the next couple of days analyze this game, see where we went wrong & fix it. Having said that, I am still very proud of my players - I know that they gave their best this evening,”

“This evening it was an opportunity for the likes of Keegan Ritchie & Lucky Khune who both did not play against Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday. I want to use the preseason games to give all the players a chance. It was for the first time for some of the players to play in a game of this magnitude in a packed stadium, but I need to point out that I am pleased with the progress the team has made since we assembled on the 27th June. We will keep improving,” added Vermezovic.

Captain, Jimmy Tau echoed the Coaches sentiments saying, “Despite the loss there were positive signs that came out of this game. It is always our objective as a team to win every time we step into the pitch but despite this setback our new guys like Keegan Ritchie and Tefu Mashamaite who were given an opportunity today did very well something that auger well for what we want to achieve this season.”

We are still in the third week of our preseason and we are still going back to training to try and improve. The bigger picture for us as the team this season is the league title,” said Tau speaking to kaizerchiefs.com.
