Vermezovic not discouraged by the defeat

The Serbian born, Vladimir Vermezovic was gracious after defeat on Wednesday evening heaping praise on both SuperSport United and his counterpart Gavin Hunt.

The Glamour Boys who controlled most parts of the game failed to break United’s water tight defence and when they did they could not beat goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

“I would like to congratulate SuperSport United for their win here tonight. I warned my players before this game that they are aggressive. They are serious and play as if they are a team from abroad. Gavin Hunt and his players need to be congratulated for the wonderful job,” said VV who was calm and collected speaking to kaizerchiefs.com.

Going back to his team; Vermezovic felt that the two goals were soft; “If you look at both goals its kind of goals that we should not have conceded. This is something that we need to work on at training and hopefully we can minimize our mistakes when opponents press us like they did on the first goal.

However, Vermezovic defended his defence; “We always look at blaming defenders and sometimes forget to pay tribute to the strikers. If you look at the second goal you will see that the player (Kermit Erasmus) who headed the ball was very fast on that occasion. I do not think there was a problem at the back on both instances.

He also agreed with his counterpart that South Africa needs to improve the final pass to the last attacking third; “It is a problem in South Africa. This is something that needs to be addressed.

“Having said that we created lot of chances in this game and we were unlucky in many occasions. I also feel that with bit more height we should have done better on set pieces. Our strikers, Bernard Parker and (Lehlohonolo) Majoro are both short and our defenders are not as tall, even Tefu (Mashamaite) is not as tall. This then does not give us options when we attack or defend set pieces as compared to SuperSport.

Chiefs has not won a game since end October when they beat Platinum Stars at home. They drew against Santos and Maritzburg before losing against SuperSport United.

“We are not happy that we lost this game but we are not discouraged. We are going to keep on fighting. There is a long way to go before the end of the season. I still have confidence on my players and we will soon bounce back to winning ways,” added Vermezovic.
