Vermezovic confident of reaching final

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic was quick to point out that, when his side qualifies for the Telkom Knockout Cup final, the few days they have to prepare for the final will not be a disadvantage.

The final -scheduled for April 10 - will be against Ajax Cape Town who beat AmaZulu 2-0 on Saturday in Bloemfontein.

“When we qualify I don’t think it (four days of preparation) should be a problem. We will prepare as we always do and give our best, just as we will give our best on Monday,” VV, as he is known to the media, said about the semi-final clash against Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Monday.

Vermezovic has reason to believe his side will march in to the final after disposing of Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinal clash, but told reporters that Pirates did not have it easier than them.

“It was good to beat Sundowns, it was good for our confidence and our belief that we can go all the way,” the Serbian said after a training session at Chiefs home base in Naturena.

“But I don’t think Pirates had it easy against Cosmos, no team in this round had it easy. These teams are the four best teams in the tournament and deserve their place here because they fought for it. We have to respect them for this and it would not matter who we face, they are all quality opposition.”

“We are prepared and ready to take on Pirates and it does not matter who they played previously, what matters now is beating them. They are a good side and you all know the history between us.”

Games between the Soweto clubs are often tense, competitive and end in stalemates, but this time around there has to be a winner and although the players practiced penalties Vermezovic believes the game will end in regulation time. The Amakhosi beat Santos in a tense penalty shootout in their first round game in Cape Town.

“We have to be prepared for anything but this game will end in 90 minutes. I just have a feeling we can do it. The players are really focused on winning it convincingly and I am very confident we can,” he said boldly.

Kick off is at 3pm at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
