Naturena, Johannesburg: League defending champions Kaizer Chiefs have signed Ugandan national squad striker cum left-winger, David Obua who scored against Bafana Bafana in their African Cup of Nations qualifier game in Johannesburg.

21-year-old Obua who celebrated his birthday on the 10 of April, signed a three (3) year contract with the Naturena outfit to bolster the club’s striking department.

Commenting about his move to South Africa, the former Ugandan Express Sports FC striker said he was happy to have signed for Chiefs, “My football career has now shifted to another gear by signing with Kaizer Chiefs because everything here is professional and it actually feels like I am somewhere overseas. I have a role to play and that is that of creating scoring opportunities and scoring goals and that will do the talking for me”.

Obua is the captain of the Ugandan national team and will share his leadership expertise with his new team-mates at Chiefs at a crucial time when the club needs to fire through all cylinders to ensure it retains the league title.

Welcoming Obua at the club’s training grounds team manager Bobby Motaung said, “Young as he is, Obua’s international experience and leadership qualities made it hard for us to resist him and when we saw him play for his country against South Africa recently we knew he was the type of a player needed here to strengthen our attack”.

Obua who was out of contract at the time Chiefs snatched him, is the fourth international foreign player to join Amakhosi, after Zimbabwean Tenashe Nengomashe, and the Zambian duo of Collins Mbesuma and Songwe Chalwe. Patrick Mabedi is now a naturalized South African.
