Kaizer Chiefs chances of closing the gap between them and log leaders, SuperSport United took a knock following a 2-0 defeat against the latter at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night. Glen Salmon (67) and substitute, Jabu Maluleke (70) found the back of the net for SuperSport United.

The hosts who were seeking a revenge following a defeat from SuperSport United earlier in this season hosts suffered a blow as early as five minutes when Kaizer Motaung Jr replaced striker, Knowledge Musona who landed awkwardly after he was pushed by Morgan Gould.

In a first half where few opportunities were created, Emille Baron was called to duty when he denied Nkosinathi Nhleko following a superb pass from Kaizer Motaung Jr.

Then Josta Dladla watched his long range shot going just over the bar as Chiefs stamped their authority in the game.

Chiefs who had better exchanges in the first half went the dressing room the better of the two sides and continued to ask more questions early in the second half when Siphiwe Tshabalala tested Emille Baron with a superb free kick but the former Amakhosi stopper pulled an equally good save.

At the 53rd minute referee, Faiek Daniels was forced to stop the game after the power went off in the East, South and for about eight minutes. That seem to have slowed down the Glamour Boys who were on top of their opponents prior to the lights going off.

Arthur Bartman who had been reduced to a spectator earlier in the game was forced to pull a good save denying Bongani Khumalo who had rose the highest to head Daine Klate’s corner.

Substitute, Abia Nale who made an impact after coming in last weekend against Santos made an immediate impact when he had his shot superbly stopped by Emille Baron who won Man of the Match for his efforts. This is was following a superb defence splitting pass from Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

In the 67th minute SuperSport United took the lead when Glen Salmon tapped in from close range following a cross from Jabu Maluleke. The creator, Maluleke added the second goal for the visitors after three minutes later with a shot inside the 18-area box with Chiefs defence at sea.

The Glamour Boys did not throw in the towel though as they continued to attack with substitute, Mthokozisi Yende causing lot of problems for the visitors defence.

Kaizer Motaung Jr watched his shot going across the face of Emille Baron’s goals to sum up what had been a frustrating night for the Amakhosi.

Kaizer Chiefs travel to neighbours, Bidvest Wits on Sunday with a hope of redeeming themselves. Kick off for the game is at 15h30.
