The Amakhosi’s Telkom Knockout Cup triumph over arch rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday evening, signaled another milestone for the club as they have now for the eighth season in succession won a Cup title.

Amazingly in those eight seasons Tinashe Nengomasha has featured in every Cup Final (Telkom Knockout as well as other competitions) that the club have played in.

On Saturday evening ‘the General’ equaled the record set by his former club mate Thabo Mooki for playing in six Telkom Knockout Cup finals, and he also leveled with Mooki in adding a fifth Telkom Knockout Cup winners medal to his collection.

Mooki was quick to praise Tinashe for his achievement and on getting on par with his record of Telkom Knockout Cup Finals appearances and wins, “Tinashe is a fantastic guy and I am happy for him that he has been able to contribute to Chiefs’ success the way he has.

Tinashe called me before the final to tell me that he would be equaling my record and wanted my blessing and in truth who would not want to share a place in history alongside a player like Tinashe. I hope that he can go on next season and appear in his seventh Telkom Knockout Cup Final and win another one”.

Mooki and Nengomasha together won two league titles for the Amakhosi in the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons, and in addition they played together in five Cup finals winning three of them.

The pair first played together in the 2002-2003 Coca Cola Cup Final (now Telkom Knockout Cup) although Chiefs lost to Cosmos that season they did manage to win the trophy the following season (03-04) and again in the 2007-2008 season.

While reminiscing on the finals they played together Mooki added “we spoke about these matches when he called me the other day and I have many good memories of playing with Tinashe, he was always the kind of player who did well in the big games.

We were on the same cup winning side a few times which was really wonderful; Tinashe was always a player who excelled when playing in a Cup final.”

The Cup Final against Pirates was also the tenth time that Tinashe had appeared in a Cup final for the Amakhosi since first making his debut for the club in the 2001-2002 season, it was his eight triumph in a Cup Final with Chiefs.
