Tshabalala looking to avoid surprises

On Wednesday evening they were on the same team dismantling Paraguay and guiding Bafana Bafana to their first ever victory over a team from South America, in the process of Bafana’s 3-0 victory both were on the score sheet.

Things could not be more different though when South African national team colleagues Chiefs Siphiwe Tshabalala and Sundowns Surprise Moriri spear head their clubs push on in the Nedbank Cup, when Chiefs and Sundowns come face to face at the ABSA Stadium in a few days time.

Tshabalala believes that Moriri should be the one to watch and that scoring against Paraguay has helped build the 2006 – 2007 PSL player of the season’s confidence, which was on the wane in recent months.

No surprise

Tshbalala is well aware of the danger posed by his South African national team colleague, and spelt out to kaizerchiefs.com what he is expecting of Moriri in Durban.

“Surprise is a player with the ability of starting a move from the back and finishing it off on the other end. He is a classy player who has an abundance of talent and is not afraid to let the opposition know that he can make the difference; I feel that over all Sundowns have a really well balanced team. While Surprise is possibly there star performer there is also Lerato Chabangu to be wary of, I find Lerato to be the kind of player who will be patient and wait for that one moment in the match that comes his way to mark an impression on proceedings”.

At the ready

Siphiwe’s recent displays for club and country have helped him prepare in the correct way for this match and he will be looking at continuing from where he left off against Amazulu and Paraguay when he meets the likes of Moriri and Chabangu.

Tshabalala said of his recent purple patch in form and what winning the Nedbank Cup means to the Amakhosi, “for us winning this competition is priority number one. With us not being in a position to win the league we still want to end the season on a high, and rounding it off with our second trophy would be perfect. For me on a personal footing going into the match on the back of a number of good performances, has lifted my spirits and I am more confident as we go to this game”.
