Media Relations Officer, Luthando Zibeko took time on Saturday, 11 July 2009 to give back to the community as he celebrated his belated birthday (18 June) with the kids of Leamogetswe Safety Home in Attridgeville, Pretoria.

Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, accompanied Zibeko; together with the likes of Generations star Thami Mnqolo, SABC Sports Hub journo Velile “Macarina” Mbuli, Home Affairs actor Brenda Ngxoli, former Kaizer Chiefs Public Relations Manager, Siyabulela Makunga and other personalities.

“This is something that we all (South Africans) have to embark on in creating a better society for those who are less fortunate,” said Luthando affectionately known as Trompies.

“I am grateful to my employers, Kaizer Chiefs who gave me a day off allowing me to celebrate my birthday with the kids of Leamogetswe. They were very happy to see Khune in particular. Itumeleng remains a role model and an inspiration to the young people for what he has achieved at his age. He has remained humble and his presence there brought smiles to kids.”

“I am also grateful to my colleagues, friends who contributed with tons of groceries, while Chiefs donated shorts and socks. Puma through the relationship I have with them also contributed with t-shirts,” revealed Zibeko.

Zibeko said the initiative is also to support the call that has been made by Mandela Foundation to dedicate part of our time as South Africans in giving back to disadvantaged communities.

“I sat down with my friend, Mzoxolo Maki and we decided that this was a way to embrace the idea and I have no doubt that with Mandela Day this coming weekend, South Africans in all walks of life will do their best to contribute to the society.

We have now adopted the Home and I have made a commitment to celebrate my birthday with the kids every year,” he concluded.
