Three PSL games postponed

The Castle Premiership game between Kaizer Chiefs and Wits University scheduled for Soccer City on Saturday has been moved to a later date, as Wits have three players on duty with the Olympic squad.

Wits, who registered an encouraging 3-1 victory against Nampula of Mozambique in the Confederation Cup over the weekend, will only return to league action on March 17 against Black Leopards at Milpark.

The inclusion of reserve goalkeeper Jacob Mokhasi, defender Tsietsi Mahoa and midfielder Gert Schalkwyk prompted the change in accordance with the PSL rules, that entitle teams with three or more players on national duty to a postponement.

Chiefs themselves will have two players away in the Olympic qualifiers. Defender Derrick Spencer will be on the South African side that will try to revive their Athens dreams against Ghana at HM Pitje Stadium. Striker Collins Mbesuma has been released for duty with the Zambian squad that will play against Algeria.

Two more PSL games will also be affected. The Leopards vs Orlando Pirates match penciled for Thohoyandou will move to a later date still waiting to be confirmed. Leopards coach Ephraim Mashaba will probably not complain about this development following his second defeat as the new man in charge the past weekend.

Leopards will need more time to recover following the 3-1 loss to Chiefs on Saturday. Mashaba’s first defeat was inflicted by Pirates in the opening round of the Absa Cup two weeks ago.

The Golden Arrows vs Silver Stars match falls off the weekend programme with Arrows contributing three key players (Sakhile Mhlangu, Papi Zothoane and Mabhudi Khanyeza) to Amaglug-glug.

Meanwhile, Sundowns - fresh from a morale boosting 2-0 win against Silver Stars over the weekend - will host city rivals SuperSport United at Odi Stadium on Wednesday night. The match will be screened live on SS3 at 19:30.

Log leaders Santos will get a chance to stretch the lead to six points (with six more games played than second placed Chiefs) when the host relegation-bound Hellenic at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday night.
