Vladimir Vermezovic paid a glowing tribute to his players for a five star performance that saw the Glamour Boys being crowned Telkom Knockout champions following a 2-1 win against Ajax Cape Town at a packed Absa Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

The Glamour Boys had to soak an early pressure from Ajax Cape Town with Mandla Masango opening the scoring in the first half and Musona added a second goal early second half even the last gasp goal from Diyo Sibisi could not deny Amakhosi a victory.

The Serbian, who was called ‘arrogant’ by some sections of the media, told the press conference afterwards that his players deserved to win the cup.

“I read in the media that I am arrogant but if believing in your players is a sign of arrogance then so be it,” he said jokingly.

“I think my players deserved the victory for the hard work they have put in throughout the season. I always enjoy playing against Ajax Cape Town because they are always willing to play the ball and they put us under lot of pressure in the opening stages of the game. Credit to the defence in fact I think all the departments played their part,” said Vermezovic.

He also added that he was happy to win his first title in the African soil, “I am delighted that we have won the Cup and it means a lot not only to me but to everyone at the Club. I want to thank most important the players, the backroom staff, the Marketing department and everyone at the Village who works behind the scene for their support. We could not have achieved this if it was not for teamwork,”

The Glamour Boys will now face SuperSport United in the Last 32 for the Nedbank Cup. The game is scheduled for Sunday, 18 April 2010 at 15h00
