Jimmy Tau capped his 50th appearance in a Kaizer Chiefs jersey with an outstanding performance against BidVest Wits on Sunday, played in a role that he is not usually accustomed to the Amakhosi defender.

Tau excelled while filling in a central defensive midfield role, which allowed him to get forward as well as backtrack when the need arose.

Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp praised Tau as the 26-year-old filled in for the absent Tinashe Nengomasha held his own in this position.

Tau joined Chiefs at the start of the 2005-2006 season in a highly publicized move, which saw him, transfer across Johannesburg from The Amakhosi archrivals Orlando Pirates to Naturena.

Amongst the highlights of Tau’s first few season with Chiefs would be his’ man of the match’ performance in October 2005 as Chiefs defeated Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium. He also starred in the ABSA Cup Final in May last year when Chiefs completed a hat trick of victories over his old team Pirates in the 2005-2006 season to lift the ABSA Cup for the first time.

Having notched up fifty games for Chiefs - Tau will now be aiming for his century with The Amakhosi, if he continues to display the same kind of form he has in recent times then his next fifty games should not be long in coming.

Congratulations Jimmy - here’s to many more games for Chiefs.
