Kaizer Chiefs (1) 2 (Bulu 7, Tsotetsi 50)

Platinum Stars 2 (Ranteria 80, Grobler 89)

Kaizer Chiefs closed 2008 on a low note when they surrendered a 2-0 lead to allow Platinum Stars to score two goals in the last ten minutes of the game at Olympia Stadium on Saturday night.

The Glamour Boys took a 2-0 lead through Tshepo Bulu and Mokete Tsotetsi in the 7th and 50th minute respectively but just when they thought they had closed the season in style the visitors, Stars bounced back to score two goals in the last ten minutes.

Substitute, Luis Ranteria scored from what looked like a controversial penalty at the 81th minute. His teammates Bradley Grobler netted an equaliser in the 89th minute after he was given a walk in park to fire a shot from the right giving the diving Itumeleng Khune no chance at all.

The last time Amakhosi got the better of Stars was in 2005/6 season away by 2-1. They created many chances to wrap the game up but it was not be as the two sides share the points again. Games between the two sides both of them ended in a draw in 2006/7 season.

Chiefs coach, Muhsin Ertugral gave striker, Bulu his second start of the season and the striker had a perfect start as he fired home as early as 6th minute when he fired home to repay the faith shown to him by the coach. This was following superb work from his strike partner, Ibe Zito Ogbonna who laid a brilliant pass for Bulu to finish.

The hosts, who were the shadow of the side that lost to Free State Stars midweek, put Stars on the back foot with Tsotetsi flying header going just wide of Tapuwa Kapini’s goals.

Then the Nigerian Ogbonna who had a hand on the first goal was in the thick of things again as he outran Stars defence to superbly set up David Mathebula but the latter was a couple of seconds late as the opportunity went a begging.

The Glamour Boys should have increased the lead at the 17th minute when Siphiwe Tshabalala’s strike went just over the bar after combining brilliantly with Bulu.

Chiefs went to the half time leading with one goal to nil. Chiefs continued with their onslaught when Mathebula’s strike rattled the crossbar with the opposition defence in sixes and sevens. The hosts increased the lead via the boot of defender, Tsotetsi who had his earlier shot parried away by Kapini.

Substitute, Ranteria pulled one goal back for Platinum Stars from the spot kick after Tinyiko Hlungwani awarded the visitors a penalty at the 81th minute. Then, young Grobler produced a moment of brilliance when he went past through couple of defenders on the right to net an equaliser to the visitors.
