Kaizer Chiefs suffered their 6th defeat of the season when they lost 2-0 to Free State Stars at Charles Mopeli on Wednesday afternoon. Free State Stars who dominated the first stanza of the game scored their first two goals inside the first 30 minutes through Hleza Mofedi and Prince Olumo’s strikes.



The loss was a big blow for Kaizer Chiefs who were hoping to close the gap between themselves and current log leaders, Supersport United.



Amakhosi started the game on fourth position with 19 points, three points behind log leaders, Supersport United.

The hosts, Free State Stars made their intentions clear as early as 16th minute when midfielder, Hleza Mofedi scored from close range after Chiefs defence failed to clear the ball out of danger.



Then the hosts who were attacking non-stop added their second goal of the afternoon via the boot of Prince Olumo after Itumeleng Khune failed to hold onto Thamane Motaung’ cross. 2-0 to the hosts, Free State Stars.

Free State Stars continued to ask more questions with Prince Olumo’s 25 metre drive rattling the woodwork with keeper, Itumeleng Khune in full stretch.



Chiefs started the second looking more dangerous and they were nearly rewarded with Gordon Gilbert’s shot was cleared off the line by James Matola. Then Thuso Phala who came in at the 38th minute watched his shot from close range going just wide of Kennedy Mweene’s goals.



Nigerian striker, Ibe Zito Ogbonna missed the best opportunity of the afternoon when his shot that need a tap in went over the bar from six yards after good looking cross from substitute, Thuso Phala.



Muhsin Ertugral brought the experienced Thabo Mooki for Mandla Masango with 16 minutes left on the clock. The Glamour Boys started knocking the ball around more but found it hard to break what was a water tight Free State Stars defence.



Substitute, Thuso Phala who added some spark in the game was in the thick of things again few minute later when he brilliantly set up for Tshepo Bulu who delayed his shot allowing Free State Stars defence to thwart the danger for a corner.



At the end of the day, the afternoon belonged to the hosts who bagged maximum points having started the game place 14th on the log.



Chiefs will now face Platinum Stars on Saturday, 20 December in 2008.
