Spencer suspended for derby encounter

Derrick Spencer will be unable to add to the five appearances he has made in ABSA Premier league games for The Amakhosi this season, as he is suspended for Chiefs next league game to be played this coming Sunday against Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows.

Spencer collected his third yellow card of the season when he came on as a second half substitute during Chiefs Nedbank Cup defeat to Sundowns at the weekend, which was on top of previous cards he received against Amazulu on the 5th December and Jomo Cosmos on the 17th February.

Spencer misses out

Spencer, who was informed by Muhsin Ertugral that he will have to sit out Sunday’s game, spoke of his disappointment of having to miss the match.

“Given the problems I have had with injuries this season, I was aiming to play in as many of the remaining league matches as possible. Obviously having to miss out in playing in a derby game is not ideal but I have to now look forward to our next game against Sundowns the following week”.

In working order

Apart from Spencer’s absence, Muhsin Ertugral will have a full strength team to select for the match with Swallows, and the coach was surprised that he did not have a long casualty list after the hard-fought Nedbank Cup match against Sundowns.

“We have Derrick out for the Swallows game,” said Ertugral.

“Looking at the kind of physical game we were involved in with Sundowns I must say that I am pleased that we did not have any injured players in that game. So it’s good for us we can go forward knowing that we have our strongest squad available”.
