Spencer, who joined Chiefs during the 2004 January transfer window, won back to back league titles with The Amakhosi in the 2003 – 2004 season as well as in 2004 – 2005; and was named man of the match during Chiefs' most recent cup triumph when they won the Telkom Knock Out Cup in December.

The player, who will turn 26 on the Day Chiefs face arch rivals Orlando Pirates on the 10th May, has been linked with a move away from Chiefs with media rumouring him to be on his way to a number of clubs. Spencer though would like for nothing more than to remain at Naturena and is looking towards penning a new deal with Chiefs soon.

Speculative talk

Spencer has for the moment dismissed all talk of him heading away from Naturena as speculative, saying that nothing would please him more than to stay at Chiefs until he turned thirty.

“Whenever a player's contract is up, there are always people who will start talking about what he is doing or where he is going - for me the perfect choice is to stay at Chiefs right now. We are engaged in contract discussions and I am hoping that they will soon be sorted out and we can start focusing on next season or the next three perhaps”.

Look ahead

Spencer believes that remaining at Chiefs will be a good career move and will help him full fill a number of his yet unfulfilled dreams. A move elsewhere could perhaps hamper the progress he is making towards reaching his stated target.

“I still do have a desire to play for my country. Looking at the fact that at Chiefs, we're always competing at advanced stages in various competitions, it will be good for me to stay here and hold a regular place in the team. I am sure that with in the next couple of months I will be able to achieve that. Playing regularly at club level will help me get a national team call up”.

Game time

Talk of Spencer exiting Chiefs has stemmed from the fact that he has not featured consistently for The Amakhosi, though he believes that is not a reason for him to think about exiting.

“If you look at my season it started off with me having injury problems and then when I broke back into the team, I damaged my hamstring and missed out on many games. Fabian McCarthy came in and did a job, so it was just a case of misfortune. I know things will be different next season so far I have won a trophy every season I have been here and I think that will be difficult to top elsewhere”.
