Thami Mayaluza, the head of security and logistics for Kaizer Chiefs, has pronounced himself extremely delighted with the security operation at the Soweto Derby between Chiefs and arch-rivals Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium.

Mayaluza speaking after receiving a full brief on Saturday’s events he said: "We had one fairly major incident on the West side towards the end of the game where some Pirates fans began throwing missiles onto the field. I felt the security handled the situation well with the police and the stadium security moving in quickly to quell the problem and bottle neck the small group of supporters causing the disruption."

Pirates have been called up to a PSL Disciplinary committee hearing on Thursday to answer questions relating to the behaviour of their fans as Saturdays game neared its end. Pirates will have to pay a suspended fine of R25 000 suspended from before plus any other fines that may be instituted on them should they be found guilty.

Mayaluza also confirmed that there were a number of arrests made at the stadium and these related to ticket touts selling match tickets at inflated prices to supporters outside the stadium. Also vendors selling fake merchandise had their goods confiscated as only authorized Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates vendors were allowed in the stadium selling both teams licensed products were allowed to be in the stadium.
