Managing Director, Bheki Shongwe has added another feather on his cap with his appointment as Chairman of Highveld Steel and Vanadium Corporation Limited, the second largest JSE Listed steel manufacturer of in Southern Africa.

Shongwe who was recently appointed as the Managing Director of Kaizer Chiefs has served on the Board of Highveld since September 1994. In addition to his Chairmanship appointment, he also chairs the Transformation Committee and serves on the Audit Committee of Highveld as well.

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Monday, the soft-spoken MD, who has decades of experience in the commercial world, said he felt honoured by this appointment.

“I have served and still serve on a number of Boards of listed and non-listed companies and this appointment for me being endorsed by Evraz, the major shareholder, is recognition of my service to the company over the many years.”

“This appointment has even more significance in the Transformation agenda of the country in that since the company’s formation, it is the first time that this responsibility has been given to a black and independent South African Director. I believe this is a major positive step for Highveld and I can only see great things ahead for the company,” he added.
