'While others are growing older, I feel like a 16-year-old,' said veteran midfielder John 'Shoes' Moshoeu at a post match conference following his vintage performance that helped Amakhosi to a 2-0 win against Sundowns at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Moshoeu was responding to a question about him constantly being overlooked for selection to the national team despite his consistent form since rejoining Amakhosi at the start of last season.

A rare breed of players that are approaching 40 and yet go out on the field and give a performance as though their lives depended on it. "I love my job and I do it with passion," said Moshoeu. "You have to go out there and be prepared to break a leg."

"Yes I feel I should be in the national team. It's long overdue but it's not for me to decide. There are many other players beside myself who should also be in the squad but they are not there.

"For instance, last season I voted for Frank Makua as the best player but there was no mention of his contributions in that season and he did not even make the Bafana B squad. But I think that question should be directed at the national team technical staff," said Moshoeu.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder with 63 international appearances and six goals capped another fine performance on Saturday with a Castle Larger Man of the Match Award. This honour was in recognition of his contribution in helping Amakhosi to a 2-0 win with his commanding role in midfield throughout the match.

Moshoeu was later replaced by Thabo Mooki on 71 minutes. "Shoes is old," joked coach Ted Dumitru responding to a question about the replacement of Moshoeu.

"Seriously though, Shoes completed his task gloriously and Mooki was burning to get into action. There are 24 reasons why a player can or should be replaced and we always have a good reason when substituting a player," said Dumitru.

"We need to give other players a chance to develop and the scoreline at that time allowed us the opportunity to make changes."

Dumitru added that the unavailability of stars like Jabu Pule, Stanton Fredericks, Rodney Thobejane, Jabulani Mendu through injury did not have much impact on the team overall.

"This is another proof that Kaizer Chiefs with 27 players can answer any situation. It was not easy to play without those players but this presented others with chance," said Dumitru.

The Amakhosi coach said his strikers still needed to practice more composure in the box. "Sundowns played well today but on three occasions we had one-on-one situations and we could have done better. We need more composure in the box," he said.
