It was a repeat of the first round result where Amakhosi triumphed by the same margin.

Overall it was Chiefs’ fourth victory over Sundowns after winning in the Charity Cup, Absa

Cup and in the first round league match.

For Moshoeu it was a great return to scoring form after he last scored on November 9 in

the 2-0 away win to Manning Rangers. The veteran midfielder is still Amakhosi’s leading

scorer with seven goals.

Second half substitute David Kannemeyer scored the insurance goal on the 90th minute to

kill off any hope that the hosts might have harboured.

The first half belonged to the hosts who could have gone into the break with a healthy

lead bar for their wastefulness in front of goals. Clement Mazibuko proved a handful coming from

the right wing and his dangerous balls almost wreaked havoc in the Chiefs defence.

Joseph Mthombeni gave the hosts added advantage in the middle of the park but defender

Derrick Spencer was at his usual best in the heart of the Amakhosi defence. In fact had it

not been for Spencer’s composure, Downs could have easily score three before the break.

Junior Khanye was also impressive and Marco Mthembu - as was the case in the Absa Cup

first round where Chiefs won 3-1 - always had problems in dealing with the youngster.

Chiefs are still second on the log after leaders Santos had registered a 2-1 win against

Golden Arrows on Friday. Ajax Cape Town kept up the pressure with a victory against Silver

Stars to remain third.
