Amakhosi captain Cyril Nzama has pronounced himself happy with the way the team have gone about completing the introductory phase of their pre-season training and he has been further pleased by the way the new players have assimilated into the team.

The Amakhosi returned for work on Monday and under went a series of fitness tests at the University of Johannesburg, before regular training began on Wednesday. Nzama, who was amongst the first players to undergo the tests earlier in the week, took over as captain of Chiefs midway through last season.

He is now looking forward to leading Chiefs over the length of the season, after holding aloft the ABSA Cup Trophy at the end of the past season he is out to get his hands on more silver ware.

The Chiefs captain is adamant that with the team being amongst the first teams in the PSL to return for pre-season training demonstrates that a winning mentality exists with in the team, and the entire squad is ready for the season ahead.

Nzama adds “we came back early from our holidays so that we could get a good start and get whatever problems we have in terms of fitness etcetera out of the way early on”.

There is much expected of Chiefs this coming term after the club were in unsuccessful in retaining their PSL crown, Cyril is aware of the publics expectations. He continues further “the fact that we have come back much earlier than every one else shows that we serious about winning the PSL title and as many trophies as we can with it.

We have all sat down together and discussed what we want to achieve this season, the good thing about the discussions we had is that every one is interested not in personal glory but in the team been successful”.

A successful team is a united team, Nzama has been further buoyed by the way the players have welcomed with open arms the new players “when new guys come into the team it is also going to be the case that some one will feel threatened by their arrival.

Thankfully I can say that at this team the guys have really welcomed the new signings with open arms, and instead of seeing new additions as a threat the guys know that they need to lift their game and work harder” added Nzama.

Chiefs begin their preparations for an assault on what will hopefully be their third PSL title in four seasons, in earnest next weekend when they take part in a four team tournament in Limpopo.

Amakhosi have started their preparations almost two weeks earlier than they did last season and have a full schedule of games leading up to the new season.

With the first steps being taken towards the season resumption in August the signs are ominous that Chiefs could be setting the tone towards making strides for a third league title.
