Caution: Tau, Nengomasha,

Kaizer Chiefs suffered their second defeat in as many days when they went down 3-0 against Santos at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night.

Romano Scott grabbed a brace in the 7th and 39th minute while Ryan Chapman added the other goal leaving the Glamour Boys with more questions than answers heading into the break.

The Amakhosi, who had lost against archrivals, Orlando Pirates over the weekend, were hoping to bounce back to put pressure on the latter who were still occupying the second spot in the league.

Coach Muhsin Ertugral made four changes to the side that lost to Pirates in the Soweto Derby last Saturday. Emille Baron replaced Itumeleng Khune in goal, while captain, Jimmy Tau reclaimed right back spot from Jeffrey Ntuka and Josta Dladla replaced veteran winger Arthur Zwane.

Upfront, Jose Torrealba, who had a brilliant game after coming in as a substitute last Saturday, replaced Abia Nale who was rested because of shoulder injury.

Santos had a bright start when Scott beat Baron from close range after defender, Onismor Bhasera misjudged Graham King’s cross. Two minutes later, Chapman made it 2-0 as defender Valery Nahayo failed to clear a long ball from Tyrene Arendse.

Ertugral brought Jonathan Quartey replacing Valery Nahayo in the 18th minute to bolster the defence. The Glamour Boys started knocking the ball around and came close opening the score when David Mathebula’s well struck free kick went just over the bar.

It was Santos though who found the back of net as Romano Scott’s grass cutter beat the diving Emille Baron making the score 3-0 by half time.

Chiefs started the second half the brighter of the two sides as Siphiwe Tshabalala’s well curled free-kick was parried outside for a corner by Lee Langeveldt.

Ertugral had introduced Nigerian Ibe Zito Ogbonna who was making his first appearance following an injury that ruled him out for more than six weeks.

Baron pulled a good save denying Jerome Ramathlakwana a goal in a one on one situation. On the other side goalkeeper Langeveldt was at his best as he denied Tshabalala for the second time.

The Cape born goalkeeper Baron - making his fourth appearances of the season -showed why he is regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the country when he denied Ramathlwakana from close range.

Chiefs will travel to Potchefstroom on Saturday to honour a meeting Platinum Stars in their last game for what has been a dramatic 2008/9 season. With Free State Stars breathing down Amakhosi’s neck, maximum points will ensure the Amakhosi retain the third spot in the league.

Free State Stars are on 46 points while the Glamour Boys are on 47 points in the Absa Premiership.
