Date: 6 December 2008

Kick off: 18h00

Kaizer Chiefs (1) 1 (Ogbonna 23)

Engen Santos(0) (2) (Rodgers 68)(Macala 80)

Caution: Ongoa, Gabonamong, Fransch, Bhasera,

Kaizer Chiefs threw away a goal lead to allow Engen Santos to come back with second half strikes from Elizear Rodgers at the 68th minute and Bonginkosi Macala in the 80th minute. Chiefs had scored first as early as 23rd minute through Nigerian, Ibe Zito Ogbonna. The Glamour Boys missed a chance to put pressure to log leaders Supersport United who had secured a win away against Golden Arrows.

The hosts, Santos started looking more dangerous of the two sides but it was Kaizer Chiefs who drew the first blood when Ibe Zito Ogbanna netted an opener at the 21st minute after Francis Chansa failed to hold on Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s shot allowing the Nigerian to finish off with a low shot from close range.

Santos was soon on the attack a minute later; Santos came close when Graham King’s 25 metre shot rattled the crossbar. Goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune reacted fast to thwart the danger. Midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala who has been on top form this season was at his usual best giving the hosts more questions than answers while Mathebula mesmerised the opponents with his silky skills.

The hosts should have done at the 29th minute when striker, Irwin Isaacs ran into a through pass finding himself one-on-one with Itumeleng Khune but his miscued his curler allowing the latter to collect easily.

Halt time Score, 1 to Chiefs 0 to Santos.

Santos threw everything at the beginning of the second stanza in search of an equalizer but found goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune in an uncompromising mood. Elizear Rodgers had his close range shot saved from close range by the agile youngster. Ramatlakwana made a follow up but found Khune at his best. Itumeleng Khune was again called to duty with Jerome Ramathlakwana firing a shot outside the 18 area but it was parried over the bar by the young Amakhosi goalkeeper.

Santos was finally rewarded though at the 65th minute when Elizear Rodgers was allowed to turn and shoot inside the box giving the diving Khune no chance. Substitute Thuso Phala came close to securing a winner for the visitors when his shot came back from the cross bar from a close range. It was Santos though who had the upper hand when right back, Bongi Macala secured a winner for the home side with a right footed strike from close range.

Siphiwe Tshabalala had his striker parried away by an alert Francis Chansa as the Glamour Boys searched for an equaliser. However it was not the day for Amakhosi who are forced to go back to the drawing board ahead of the Bay United fixture at Rand Stadium next Sunday at 4p.m.
