Ryder picks his Chiefs X1 for all time

Johannes 'Ryder' Mofokeng captained the Glamour Boys for a decade, from 1975-1985 having joined the Club as a teenager back in the early 70s. Chiefs turns 40 on Thursday, 07 January 2010, “Skipper” as Johannes Mofokeng is affectionately known at Naturena, picked his favourite XI of all time.

Joseph “Banks” Sethlodi (Goalkeeper)

He, in my opinion, is the greatest goalkeeper ever for Kaizer Chiefs and he will definitely feature in my all time Kaizer Chiefs X1. Banks was agile and also very brave. He manned the posts for the Glamour Boys for more than 10 years a demonstration of his quality.

Johannes “Ryder” Mofokeng (Right back)

I pick myself on the right side of defence and I will also captain this team without a doubt! My strength was both to attack and defend.

Simon “Bull” Lehoko (Centre Back)

This man from the Vaal was a no nonsense defender. He was very strong in the air and would out-jump taller players. He was strong in the tackle as well.

Jingles Parriera (Centre Back)

He was a very good reader of the game and very solid at the back. He could go score and come back defend...Jingles was also a good man.

Gerald “Umgababa” Dlamini (Left Back)

Despite the lack of speed, Umgababa liked to attack the opposition. He was also a good crosser of the ball.

Sylvester “City” Kole (Destroyer)

Sylvester would be there to destroy in the middle behind Malombo Lechaba and Ace Ntsoelengoe. He was very good at positioning himself and gives this team shape.

Patrick “Ace” Ntsoelengoe (Midfield)

Ace had vision and would control the game...he would attack when he wants to. I pick him to play alongside Malombo in the middle of the park.

Jan “Malombo” Lechaba (Midfield)

Malombo could make things happen in the middle and had speed to go forward and would equally come back and defend when called to.

Teenage Dladla (Right Wing)

I do not know what to say that has not been said about Teenage Dladla! I cannot compare him to any player that I have seen in my lifetime...Messi reminds me of him sometimes. He would mesmerise the opposition as if it was the last game. He and Shaka Ngcobo would change ‘wings’ during the course of the game to confuse opponents.

Shaka “Valdez’’ Ngcobo (Left Wing)

A complete player who would also play as a striker, Shaka had everything you look for in a player, speed, technique and of course a knack for goals.

Michael “Bizzah/Monkey Jive” Dlamini (Forward)

He was very good holder of the ball and his goal scoring prowess are unmatched.

Coach: Eddie Lewis

Subs: Vusi “Maria-Maria/Computer’ Lamola, Wagga Wagga Lekoebe, Zeblon “Sputla” Nhlapho, Sugar Muguyo, Marks “Go Man Go” Maponyane
