Revved up Chiefs aim for Stars

Fresh from their 3-0 victory against Black Leopards in midweek, Kaizer Chiefs head to Polokwane on Sunday for an encounter with Silver Stars aiming for maximum points to strengthen their title defence.

The defending champions have found their form in the last couple of games and their defence have also come to the fore keeping clean sheets in three successive matches. That stability at the back has largely been attributed to the return of Fabian McCarthy who has taken his place in central defence along with veteran Patrick Mabedi.

The mighty Amakhosi have scored eight goals in the last three games without conceding a single goal.

Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma continues to march towards his self-set target of scoring 20 goals this season and he has already scored thirteen in the league only. Take into account the six he has scored in cup competitions and that goal could be achieved in no time. After all he has already scored against Stars in the past.

The last time these sides met in the Castle Premiership was on September 11 last year. Chiefs ran out 2-1 winners through goals from John 'Shoes' Moshoeu and Mbesuma.

Stars sneaked in a 1-0 win against Ajax Cape Town in a Castle Premiership match on Wednesday night with Dingane Masanabo scoring the only goal of the game. A win was a much-needed result for Stars after five successive draws. They lie seventh on the Premiership standings while Chiefs are second.

Key Players:

Silver Stars: Dingane Masanabo - Masanabo is Silver Stars leading goalscorer. Against a team with the defensive capabilities of Kaizer Chiefs the Captain could find the going extremely tough. Masanabo will look to increase his tally of four goals this season.

Kaizer Chiefs: Gerald Sibeko - Sibeko is fitting into the mould of playing behind the two strikers brilliantly. He has a very creative eye and can spot a build up of play from nothing.

The talented midfielder is coming of age now and he will be looking to cement his position in the squad. ‘Tso’ score against Black Leopards at Soccer City on Wednesday night.
