Kaizer Chiefs produced a five star performance to thrash Ajax Cape Town by three goals to nil at Newlands Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Kaizer Motaung Jr., Thabang Rooi and Nkosinathi Nhleko put their names on the score sheet as Chiefs move to the seventh position in the Absa Premiership log.

The win was a perfect welcome for the new Managing Director, Bheki Shongwe who would have been happy to watch the Glamour Boys playing some scintillating football. The magnificent win was the first for the Glamour Boys in Cape Town since 15 March 2006 against Santos. It was also a perfect revenge for the Amakhosi who were knocked out by the same team in this year’s MTN8.

The Glamour Boys made their intentions early in the game with Josta Dladla’s header going just over the bar following some neat work Man of the Match, Nkosinathi Nhleko.

Vladimir Vermezovic had made only a single change on the side that beat Jomo Cosmos last Sunday with Siphiwe Tshabalala replacing Abia Nale on the left side of the midfield.

It was Chiefs who opened the scoring in the 28th minute with Kaizer Motaung Jr firing home at the edge of the box. It was Kaizer’s first goal of the season and the goal should go a long way in boosting the confidence of Club’s Player of the Year three seasons ago.

The Glamour Boys who looked dangerous every time they went forward came close doubling the score when Hans Vonk pulled a brilliant save denying Nhleko. From a resultant corner, Rooi found the back of the net with an overhead kick, 2-0 to Chiefs at the half time. It was Rooi’s second goal since signing with the Amakhosi at the beginning of last season.

Chiefs started the second half like house on fire with Motaung Jr forcing a superb save from Vonk. Ajax were awarded a controversial penalty in the 55th minute. However, Arthur Bartman had other ideas as he denied Sifiso Vilakazi from the spot kick, 2-0 to Chiefs after 56th minutes.

Substitute Knowledge Musona made an immediate impression after coming on for Motaung Jr when his 20 metre drive was saved by Vonk. Then both Dladla and Reneilwe Letsholonyane watched their strikes going just wide of Vonk’s goal as the Glamour Boys looked at taking advantage of sluggish Ajax.

The hosts never really threatened Chiefs defence on the afternoon thanks to a superb performance from Thomas Sweswe and Rooi.

Nhleko sent the visitors fans to frenzy when he made up for the earlier miss with a superb finish following a brilliant pass from substitute, Musona.
