Wits University vs Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 6th September 2003

Venue: Harry Oppenheimer Stadium, Orkney

Kick-off: 16:00

Wits - who will be looking for their third consecutive win over Kaizer Chiefs in a Castle Premiership clash at Orkney on Saturday - could find it tough against a revenge-seeking Amakhosi side.

Over the last few months, Wits have really become the bogey team to Chiefs, and go into this clash as favourites, as Chiefs have not been able to beat Wits since August 2001, when a Josias Macamo goal gave the Students all three points.

The match itself will be an intriguing one, as both side are playing top class football at the moment, and especially Chiefs seem to be back to their best.

Chiefs whipped Sundowns 2-0 in their opening league match, and on the day displayed some great football. They will be hoping to reproduce this form when they meet Roger De Sa’s side.

Wits will still be smarting after their defeat against Moroka Swallows in the cup last weekend, a match they should have won based on the chances they had during the opening 90 minutes.

Then to make matters worse, they missed a great opportunity in extra time when Charles Yohane saw his penalty saved by Swallows goalkeeper Greg Etafia.

Wits are likely to have Alois Bunjira back for this match, the former Sundowns star rejoining the club he left just over a season ago.

For Wits, Ivan Winstanely and Stuart Murisa will hold the key as they both scored in the last match the two sides played. In fact Murisa scored three goals in as many matches against Amakhosi of late.

But Wits will be without influential midfielder Gert Schalkwyk who is still out suspended after being sent off against Moroka Swallows in the opening league match of the season.

For Chiefs the man who holds all the aces will be Shoes Moshoeu, and he will likely be the man that all the Wits players will be keeping a careful eye on.

No matter the result, it is certainly going to be a clash of the titans.
