Fixture: Kaizer Chiefs vs. SuperSport United

Venue: Soccer City, Johannesburg

Date: 23rd February 2005

Kick-off: 20:00

SuperSport United travel to Soccer City to face probably their biggest rivals in Kaizer Chiefs. There will be no love lost when the two teams meet after Chiefs pipped SuperSport in the 2004 Coca-Cola Cup Final, less than two months after Supersport beat Chiefs in the SAA Supa8.

SuperSport are battling to find any form of consistency and after an excellent 4 – 3 win against Orlando Pirates they went on to beat Arrows their last win to date. They have drawn to Leopards, Ajax and most recently Moroka Swallows.

However, whenever Matsatsantsa play Chiefs they seem to raise their game and they should not be taken lightly. SuperSport will probably look to absorb Chiefs’ pressure and then hit them on the counter-attack, a strategy they seem to have adopted for this fixture.

Chiefs come off a superb win against Sundowns who they beat 4 – 3 on the weekend in one of the most entertaining games this season in the Castle Premiership.

Zambian striking sensation Collins Mbesuma reaffirmed his status as the Leagues leading goalscorer with a superb hat-trick. Siboniso Gaxa will more than likely be given the job of contending with the in-form striker.

Key Players:

Kaizer Chiefs: Collins Mbesuma - Mbesuma comes off an impressive performance on the weekend when he bagged a hat-trick against the mighty Brazilians, lifting Chiefs to a 4-3 victory in Pretoria, keeping their title retention hopes alive.

Supersport United: Ricardo Katza - Ricardo Katza will have a daunting task of keeping Chiefs’ formidable strike pair at close guard, along with Siboniso Gaxa the duo will need to communicate well and hold the defence tight. Chiefs have a quick attack and Supersport will battle to match them.
