Preparation has begun - Yende

The off season might be on the go and most footballers around the world are on holiday, just like Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mthokozisi Yende who has been enjoying his vacation, but the mental preparation for the 2011- 2012 campaign has already begun for the Chiefs number 10.

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com Yende divulged that he is looking ahead to the new campaign, “The planning for next season has already begun for me.

"While I have been on holiday I have been thinking about next season, it is important that despite this being the off season I keep an eye on the months ahead and what I and my teammates want to achieve next term.”

Yende further explained that he has not been slouching around during his time off, “I have been keeping fit by working out on my own.

"The coming season will be my third at Chiefs and while I have won two trophies in that last two campaigns I want to be in peak physical shape so that I can help the team be competitive in the league championship and hopefully we can hold onto the Telkom Knockout Cup for a third consecutive year.”

While Chiefs narrowly missed out on the title in 2010-2011 Yende believes that their near miss in their quest for the title has made them more determined to want to do well when the new season begins in August.

“The desire exists amongst the guys to do good in the new season, we will have some new players for next season and hopefully the new additions will compliment the current players we have and we can hopefully fulfil our objective which is to win the league.”

During the 2010-2011 season all four trophies on offer were snapped up by Chiefs and their Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, according to Yende the Amakhosi and the Buccaneers could once again be the teams to beat in 2011-2012.

“It was good for football in the country that the two biggest teams were so dominant in the last season, for a long time other teams have managed to shine and it was a nice change that us and Pirates did well.

"Seeing what Pirates achieved with them winning three trophies demonstrated that if a team works hard they can do well, we have a strong squad and I think that next season if we start off well we could prove to be serious contenders for the league title.”
