Amakhosi and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will miss South Africa's final group game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on the 22nd of June in Bloemfontein (Mangaung) against France, as a result of him being red carded during South Africa's 3-0 loss to Uruguay on Wednesday evening.

The Chiefs number one was dismissed in the 76th minute after Swiss referee Massimo Busacca adjudged Khune to have fouled Uruguay striker Luis Suarez and awarded the South Americans a penalty and showed Khune a red card.

Moeneeb Josephs came on as a substitute but was beaten from the spot by Diego Forlan.

According to a statement issued by FIFA their FIFA disciplinary committe met on Thursday morning to discuss the suspension of both Khune and Australia's Tim Cahill who was sent off during his teams 4-0 loss to Germany on the 13th of June in Durban. With regards to Khune the statement confirmed that he is regarded to have breached an article of the FIFA Disciplinary Code "for denying the opposing team a clear goal-scoring opportunity in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa match between RSA and URU of 16 June 2010".

They also confirmed his suspension adding "The player is also suspended for one (1) match. The suspension shall be served in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa match between FRA and RSA of 22 June 2010".

With Khune unavailable for the match it is likely that Moeneeb Josephs will start between at the posts.

It will be the first time at a FIFA World Cup for South Africa that the same goalkeeper does not feature in all three of Bafana Bafana's group games.

At France 98 Hans Vonk was Bafana's first choice through their three group fixtures and in 2002 Andre Arendse featured as the first choice keeper during the group stages for South Africa.

Should South Africa qualify for the round of 16 round Khune will once again be available for selection.
