Coach Gavin Hunt has made one change to the Kaizer Chiefs team that will take on Orlando Pirates in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final against Orlando Pirates, when compared to the starting XI that beat Chippa United in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday.
The two Soweto rivals had midweek engagements with Chiefs collecting maximum points against the Chilli Boys at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the DStv Premiership and Pirates shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC at Orlando Stadium.
To reach the MTN8 semi-finals, Chiefs knocked Maritzburg United out of the competition two weeks ago and Pirates beat Cape Town City FC.
This afternoon’s Soweto Derby is the 170th official meeting in all competitions between the two sides since 1970. Amakhosi have won 69 times, Pirates have 41 victories, 41 matches have been drawn and 5 abandoned for various reasons.
After a clean sheet against Chippa on Tuesday, Daniel Akpeyi will again be between the posts for the visitors.
The only change will see Ramahlwe Mphahlele return to the line-up, replacing Reeve Frosler who failed a late fitness test. He will move to the right-back positsion. Siyabonga Ngezana and Daniel Cardoso are in central defence with Philani Zulu on the left of Amakhosi’s defence.
The midfield remains unchanged with Njabulo Blom and Kearyn Baccus manning the middle of the park. The 20-year-old Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Lebogang Manyama will be the link better the midfield and the strike force.
Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro will lead Amakhosi’s attack against the Buccaneers.
The referee is Eugene Mdluli. His assistants are Khamusi Razwimisani and Elphas Sitole. The fourth official is Thando Ndzandzeka.
The first leg of the Soweto Derby MTN8 semi-final between The Phefeni Glamour Boys and Sea Robbers will kick-off at 15:00 at Orlando Stadium.
No spectators will be allowed in the stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the DStv channel SuperSport 2 and SABC 1, with commentary coming through the Twitter handle, @KaizerChiefs and various SABC radio stations.
