Obua seeking Cosmos fight-back

David Obua has described his personal performance against Benoni Premier United in a PSL game played in Germiston on Sunday afternoon as one of his most disappointing performances in a Chiefs shirt.

Obua was substituted at half time and replaced by Emmanuel Scara Ngobese as Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by the PSL novices, in blistering conditions on Sunday. The Ugandan international is now hard at work to make sure there is no repeat of a performance that he described as below par to the usually high standard he sets for himself. Obua is now looking for a better performance from himself when The Amakhosi face Jomo Cosmos on Wednesday evening at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

“I could not sleep at all on Sunday night, thinking about the way I played and the fact that I let the team, the coach and the fans down” said Obua, he continued further “I really worked hard through out the week and I felt that i could have played better than I did against Benoni United”.

The lanky Obua who has been played as a left back by Ernst Middendorp in recent times was given a free reign to play in his preferred role on the left of midfield, he feels that he was just not playing his normal game on Sunday. “The coach gave me the green light to go up and join in the attack I think that I was thinking too much like a defender and I was caught up in two minds as to what to do’.

Obua now feels that Wednesday evenings game against Cosmos presents him with the perfect opportunity to get his and Chiefs season back on track with the kind of display that will bring with it three points. The 2005 – 2006 Chiefs player of the season continued further saying “the supporters in this club have a proud tradition of standing behind their team, I have received many messages of encouragement from them. I will look towards giving them something to be happy about on Wednesday and they will leave the FNB Stadium a happy bunch”.

Wednesday nights encounter against Cosmos is likely to bring David Obua face to face with the current leading goal scorer in the PSL in the form of Zambian international Chris Katongo. David is relishing the opportunity of playing against in the form Zambian striker saying “there can be no better way to get things back on track for then by making life hard for Chris and his striking partner Anthony Laffor.

I had an indifferent game against Benoni United but the same will not happen against Cosmos, I am aware of the fact that Katongo has three goals in two games and believe me we will do everything to ensure he does not find his way onto the score sheet on Wednesday”.
