After cleaning up at the Kaizer Chiefs annual players awards on Monday night Obua was hoping for a similar performance as he was nominated for two awards at Tuesday’s ceremony. First up he was one of the nominees for the 'PSL Players' Player of the season' - he was also on the shortlist for the 'PSL Player of the season' award.

The lanky Chiefs man offered his congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Surprise Moriri who trotted off with both the awards, in the process beating off the challenge of his Sundowns teammate Esrom Nyandoro who was also a nominee for the pair of awards. After the very colourful and lively ceremony which took on a Brazilian Carnival theme, in honour of the 2005-2006 PSL Champions, who are nicknamed the Brazilians.

Obua said, "just to be nominated for these awards is an honour for me, Surprise deserves the awards after all he did more than his part in ensuring Sundowns won the league."

Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung who was also in attendance at Tuesday night’s ceremony offered a shoulder for Obua after the disappointment of not collecting any of the awards he was nominated for. Bobby said, “I really feel for David, because I thought he had a real chance of winning at least one of the awards, he is still young and he will have the chance again next season."

Obua will leave next week for a well-deserved holiday and will return back to the country when the Chiefs first team begin pre season training in early July. For now the Ugandan international wants to get some much needed rest and thereafter he says he will be looking forward to the challenge of Manchester United on the 18th July.
