Amakhosi left back Onismor Bhasera will serve a one-match suspension when he is forced to sit out The Amakhosi’s ABSA Premiership game against Platinum Stars on Wednesday evening.

The Zimbabwean international left back collected his sixth yellow card of the season, during Chiefs 1-1 draw away to Ajax Cape Town on Saturday. So far this season the powerful left back has already served a suspension after he was sent off during a league match against Amazulu in Durban in December. As a result of his dismissal against The Usuthu he had to miss Chiefs matches against Santos and Golden Arrows which took place in December last year. Bhasera though will be able to make a comeback on the weekend when Chiefs travel to the Free State for their clash with Free State Stars.

Missing act

Bhasera has been one of Chiefs most consistent performers this season and has played in 17 of Chiefs 20 league games so far, just one game less than his Zimbabwean international teammate Tinashe Nengomasha, though he and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune have both featured in 17 league games this term.

Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral said of Bhasera’s impending absence for the next league fixture “a player like Onismor always gets stuck into the action. So the chances are that he is going to pick up yellow cards, Platinum Stars have done well since the fixtures resumed last month and we needed a player of Onismor’s strength for the match”.

The rest

The other injury casualties in the Amakhosi camp over the weekend included Jonathan Quartey and Thuso Phala, both of whom resumed training on Monday and should be available for the mid week fixture. Derrick Spencer has continued training it is still unsure whether he will be able to feature against Stars, Muhsin Ertugral has said a decision will be taken on Spencer’s availability on Tuesday afternoon. Likewise midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala who has a bruised knee will also learn about his fate on Tuesday afternoon, the Bafana Bafana player took a knock during the Ajax game to his right knee.
