Weekend newspapers reports have suggested that The Amakhosi have made a u-turn on the status of the clubs transfer listed midfielder duo of Gert Schalkwyk and Emmanuel Scara Ngobese. The players were put on transfer by Chiefs some time in August with a host of other players, who have since found clubs on a permanent basis or were loaned out Ngobese and Schalkwyk were unable to secure deals prior to the close of the transfer window at the end of August.

As a result they began training with the Chiefs youth team in order to maintain their fitness, a number of newspapers on Sunday reported that the players were recalled to the Kaizer Chiefs first team by Muhsin Ertugral. Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung on Monday shed further light on the issue, and cleared up the mis- understanding and confusion created by the Sunday reports.

Status quo unchanged

Motaung while discussing the matter with kaizerchiefs.com clarified the players status with the club adding, “Gert and Scara are Chiefs players and even though they are on the transfer list they are still contracted to Kaizer Chiefs”. The weekend reports said that the pair were seen training in Sandton with the rest of the Chiefs first team on this the Amakhosi team manager added. “The two players in question still train on a full time basis with the Chief youth team, what the papers are referring to is a training session held with a physical trainer at a gym in Northern Johannesburg which the coach felt that they should be part of”. According to Motaung Schalkwyk and Ngobese will continue to take part in special training sessions, with the physical trainer.

Time to tell

In his lengthy discussion with kaizerchiefs.com the Bobby Motaung further added, “the door was never closed to these players once their moves away did not materialize the ball was in their half so to speak. It is up to them to put in the necessary effort to convince the coach that they are still Kaizer Chiefs material, right now we are still open to offers for these guys and will consider any should they be brought to us”.
