Kaizer Chiefs off-season acquisition Sthembiso Ngcobo has been called up by new South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane for Bafana Bafana’s friendly international next Wednesday against Ghana at Soccer City.

Ngcobo along with Chiefs three 2010 FIFA World Cup representatives Itumeleng Khune, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Reneilwe Letsholonyane will be part of the 22 man squad who will gather on the 9th of August in preparation for the meeting with the 2010 FIFA World Cup Quarterfinalists on August 11.

On his reasoning behind calling up the Chiefs striker Mosimane said, “we made the decision to call Sthembiso up three weeks ago and it was not made because he scored in Namibia on the weekend.”

Mosimane believes that the inclusion of Ngcobo in the team given his strong physical presence in attack will help Bafana have more of a presence in the opposition 18 yard area, “I felt that Sthembiso deserved a chance and I believe that he will give us more power or oomph in attack.”

It is believed that Ngcobo will partner Katlego Mphela in attack for Bafana Bafana as Mosimane is looking to shift away from playing with a single attacker and is also looking for additional attacking options in order not to put too much pressure on Mphela.

Khune who did not play in South Africa’s final World Cup group game against France on the 22nd of June as he was serving a one match suspension is eligible to play in the game. He along with Tshabalala, Letsholonyane and Ngcobo complete a quartet of Chiefs players in the 22 man squad.
