Never felt better - Mkhonza

Amakhosi defender Siphiwe Mkhonza has been captivated by the 2006 FIFA World Cup being held in Germany at the present time that he is determined to be part of the fun, when South Africa host the FIFA World Cup in 2010.

Mkhonza who fared amongst the top five when Chiefs players were put through a tough physical test a week ago at the University of Johannesburg, has made no secret of the fact that he feels the 2006 – 2007 season will be a season of self satisfaction for him and one in which he hopes to establish himself in the Chiefs starting line up and the Bafana Bafana set up.

Mkhonza who spent his time during the off season by keeping in shape in the gym and kept up his match fitness by playing indoor soccer says he has never felt more ready for a season.

Mkhonza adds “at the moment I feel strong and fit - my game has improved over the past two months and I have a more positive outlook towards things at the moment”.

The young defender is now reaping the rewards of training on his own during the break. “Shoes Moshoeu made sure that I went with him to the gym every morning and he got me playing indoor soccer with him at night. I can feel that my speed as well as my stamina have both improved, the good thing is that I have been able to come through the training sessions with ease,” said Siphiwe.

Siphiwe has a two-pronged objective going through the pre-season, and then through the regular season with The Amakhosi. “My idea going into this season is to play regularly and win the Supa8 and the competition that replaces the Coca Cola Cup and by so doing, I could not be ignored for the National team. Once I find my way into the Bafana Bafana squad I am going to stay there till after the 2010 World Cup”.

As Chiefs preparations for the new season move up a gear - the man from Benoni who made his debut for Chiefs on the opening day of the 2004-2005 season when Amakhosi beat Dynamos 4-1, thereby laying a platform for what was a successful season where Chiefs won the PSL title - is flying high on confidence and ambition and believes that the 2006-2007 will once again belong to Amakhosi.
