Kaizer Chiefs has called on Amakhosi faithful, soccer and sport loving fraternity and everybody to rally behind the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day.



Corporate Communications Manager Vina Maphosa confirmed on behalf of the Club; "Kaizer Chiefs is fully behind the event. We have been sending messages through our Kaizer Chiefs multimedia platforms encouraging our supporters to rally behind the initiative. We are confident that FNB Stadium will be filled to the rafters on Saturday. Looking at the aims of the initiative and the events as outlined, surely no one will afford to miss such a treat.



"The UNITE4MANDELA Campaign aims to unite South Africans in celebration of Nelson Mandela`s vision for sports as a unifying force in society. It will culminate in the inaugural Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day on 17 August 2013.



It is a day on which South Africa`s national soccer and rugby teams will both play against international rivals at FNB stadium, Soweto. The day will also include a music concert with local and international stars. For the first time ever, the nation`s two biggest sporting codes, soccer and rugby, will stage two big internationals on one day in the same arena. The SA Masters will play a friendly against the Italian Masters. Bafana Bafana will play a friendly against Burkina Faso. The Springboks will take on Argentina. A music concert featuring a number of top local, international artists will follow the sport. The all-day event will kick off with a match between Italy`s Masters and South Africa`s Legends.



Throughout his presidency, Madiba understood the power of sport to UNIFY a nation and demonstrated his support for the national SOCCER and RUGBY teams by attending important matches.
