MTN unveils trophy ahead of MTN8 Final

As the excitement builds ahead of this weekend’s MTN8 Final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Saturday, 20 September, MTN today unveiled the MTN8 trophy.

The two teams will be vying for the newly designed silverware in addition to the R8 million prize money pot.

The design of the trophy has been modelled on the theme of the MTN8 wafa wafa – which is all about the “last man standing”, with the top of the trophy designed in a numeric eight, which represents the top eight teams that participate in the tournament. Rising out of the numeric eight is the icon of a single man that depicts the team which will be “the last man standing” at the end of the tournament.

Adding to the prestigious trophy, the winning team will also all receive championship rings, tastefully designed in white gold, which also depicts the “last man standing” icon. This is something the players who are crowned the 2008 MTN 8 Champions are sure to wear with pride.

The runners-up will receive silver medals.

Following the unveiling of the trophy today, an action-packed programme of activities is planned leading up to the MTN8 Final on Saturday, which includes open days for media to attend the teams’ training sessions, roadshows and a press conference in Durban.

The match will kick-off at 20h15 and will be televised by both broadcasters, SuperSport and SABC.
