Kaizer Chiefs officially parted ways with veteran midfielder John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu as the club handed the former Bafana Bafana star his clearance, thus making him a free agent and allowing him to join a club of his choice.

Moshoeu first joined Amakhosi in 1993 from Highlands Park but soon left to pursue what was a successful career in Europe with a number of Turkish clubs.

Shoes returned to Chiefs in the 2001 – 2002 season and soon helped Chiefs to win their first ever, PSL title in 2003 – 2004 top scoring as he lead Chiefs title charge.

Moshoeu was informed shortly after the ABSA Cup that his contract, which expires at the end of June will not be renewed, Shoes was used sparingly in the latter part of the 2005 –2006 season by coach Ernst Middendorp.

This was after Chiefs slow start to the season prompted Amakhosi coach into changing around his personnel as he opted to rope in a number of younger players. Shoes was rewarded for his hard work when he was given a starting role in Chiefs ABSA Cup triumph over Orlando Pirates.

In further developments Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has spoken out and said that he is still in the hunt for between two and four more players to fill key roles within the team looking ahead to the new season.

“At the moment I am happy with the look and balance of the team but I have spoken to Bobby and the chairman and there is a clear understanding as to what my requirements are before the season starts.

I have identified a number of areas where we need reinforcement and before pre season starts we could have a few more additions” said the Chiefs coach.

The Chiefs coach was also on hand on Tuesday to congratulate his friend and country man, former Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral on his appointment as the coach of Ajax Cape Town.

The current Chiefs coach and the former Amakhosi headman share a close friendship away from the field of play, which dates back many years.
