Molekwane ready to strengthen left-back

Lawrence Molekwane might not be accustomed to playing in the left-back slot but the young defender is ready to fill the gap for the Amakhosi on Saturday when they take on Orlando Pirates in an exhibition cup match at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Fans are given the opportunity to vote for their preferred starting eleven at www.bethecoach.co.za for the game, as the polls currently stand Molekwane and Chiefs skipper both right backs are in line to feature on Saturday.

Which leaves open the left back slot, a determined Molekwane has told kaizerchiefs.com that he is ready to step in if he does make the starting XI when the final polls are tallied on Thursday, “it is not a problem if I have to play at left back against Pirates I will do so. Although it is not my favourite position I will try my best.”

Molekwane does have some albeit limited experience playing as a left back for the Amakhosi, and is working towards being ready to play in Saturday’s game against Pirates he will try to use that experience to aid his preparation.

“A couple years ago in Durban during a league game against Sundowns I was put into the left back position, it was a challenge for me on that occasion that I needed to prepare myself for and I had to meet, I will endeavour to do the same again on Saturday.

“The fans have spoken and one of us Jimmy Tau or my-self need to step in, even though it is new territory playing at left back for either of us.”

When asked whether he thought that the fans of the opposition might be voting to ensure that Chiefs are at a disadvantaged by including to right backs in the Chiefs team, Molekwane preferred seeing the lighter side in the proceedings.

“I am not sure if they had anything to do it. We do have two good left backs in the form of Keegan Ritchie and Zhaimu Jambo it is surprising why none of them have been selected by the fans. Regardless if it means I have to play at left back I will go out there and give it my best.”
