Life for Siphiwe Mkhonza is just a number! The young defender has decided to change his jersey number from the number 29 the shirt given to him on his arrival at Chiefs last season.

He has decided to opt for the more unconventional number forty-four. He explains the reasoning behind turning his back on the number 29.

“Shortly before I left Golden Arrows I began using 44 as my jersey number and it was a case of lucky 44. Last season upon my arrival at Chiefs I had hoped to use the number 4 but it had already been drawn to Cyril Nzama - so I had to settle for 29.

"Earlier last month the kit manager Jackson Mokoena asked if anyone wanted to change numbers and I asked him if I could and the change was made.”

Mkhonza is optimistic that his new number will bring the same results it did for him when he left Golden Arrows and joined the club of he supported as a young boy growing up in eastern Johannesburg.

Mkhonza makes his debut in the number 44 jersey next weekend against Dynamos in Giyani.
